Cardboard Blank Handling

APPLICATION
This application involves the lifting and transferring of stacks of cardboard blanks used in the packaging of beverages. The operator is required to transfer a stack of blanks from a pallet, tilt them up 90 degrees into a vertical orientation, and insert into the packaging machine.

THE CHALLENGE

Typically the operators would be required to manually grasp several layers of the dense, slippery cardboard. This manual process was a significant ergonomic issue as well as a productivity issue. The goal was to find an improved ergonomic system that would allow the operators to meet required production levels.

THE SOLUTION

Stanley collaborated with a local integrator, to develop and install a complete ergonomic lift assist system based on the Cobotics Intelligent Assist Device (IAD) technology. Utilizing the iTrolley servo drive, in combination with a custom engineered end effector the system dramatically improved the ergonomics and productivity of the operation.
